I didn’t learn Spanish in a classroom. I learned it by using every tool I had at my disposal — watching telenovelas, talking to people on language exchange apps, speaking with locals, and forcing myself to use the little Spanish I knew until it slowly became part of my life.
For the past seven years, I’ve lived in Mexico, including both Mexico City and Tijuana, and Spanish has given me more than just another language. It gave me connection, community, a beautiful wife, two gorgeous daughters, and a life that I would have never imagined to be possible.
Over the past five years, I’ve also volunteered my time helping Spanish speakers practice English, and that experience showed me how powerful language can be. Learning a new language changed my life, and that’s a big part of why I care so much about helping other people do the same - building bridges between cultures and opening the door to a whole new world.
